Maybe you hold everything together until suddenly you cannot.

You replay conversations for hours. Avoid the thing you know you need to face. Say yes when you want to say no. Get overwhelmed faster than you would like. React in ways you later regret, or work so hard to control your emotions that the control itself is exhausting.

Building a Life Worth Living is a twelve-week DBT skills group for adults who want a practical framework for handling difficult emotions, relationships, stress, and ordinary life with more steadiness.

Why DBT

Learn what to do in the moment

Understanding yourself matters. There are also moments when you simply need to know:

What do I do when I am overwhelmed? How do I calm down? How do I say no without the guilt? How do I handle conflict without shutting down or blowing up? How do I stop repeating the same pattern?

DBT turns those questions into skills you practice.

  1. Mindfulness

Noticing thoughts and emotions without automatically reacting to them.

  2. Distress Tolerance

Getting through painful moments and strong urges without making things worse.

  3. Emotion Regulation

Understanding emotions and building conditions that make overwhelm less likely.

  4. Interpersonal Effectiveness

Asking for what you need, holding boundaries, saying no, and navigating conflict with your self-respect intact.

Sessions pair teaching with practice on situations participants are actually facing. The environment is supportive, non-judgmental, and trauma-informed. There is no expectation that you disclose more of your history than feels right.

Who this group is for

This group may be a good fit if you deal with:

  • Intense or long-lasting emotional reactions
  • Anxiety or chronic stress
  • Burnout
  • People-pleasing
  • Avoidance or procrastination
  • Self-criticism
  • Relationship conflict
  • Impulsive decisions
  • The emotional weight of chronic pain or illness
  • Looking capable while privately working very hard to stay okay

The group can run alongside individual therapy or stand on its own. A brief pre-group consultation helps determine whether it is the right fit.
